
Located at Bin Merah Square, near Place du 1er Novembre (Plasat Tout) in the city center.
Originally constructed circa 1533 by Sidi Ahmed El Kebir, then demolished during French colonial rule and rebuilt in 1974. Reopened in 1981 under its current name under Algerian administration.
Covers approximately 12,000 m², with a large prayer hall on the upper floor able to host up to 8,000 worshippers. Notable for its huge central dome and four towering 60 m minarets.
Includes a lower floor with a Quranic school, lecture hall (550 seats), ablution areas, and internal/external libraries. The walls are richly inscribed with Qur’anic verses from Surat al‑Fatihah to al‑Nas in tile and marble artistry.
